Aerosmith is one American band that had gone from hell and back again. Their career is divided into the period before there were drugs and alcohol and then after the rehabilitation. It started late by the year 1969 in Sunapee, New Hampshire from two bands: Chain Reaction, led by Steven Tallarico, and the Jam Band, featuring Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton.
The band played its first gig on Massachusetts in 1970 with Steven Tallarico on vocals, Joe Perry on lead guitars, Ray Tabano on rhythms, Tom Hamilton on base, and Joey Kramer on drums. Brad Whitford replaced Tabano on 1971 as the latter came back to the band as marketing director.
Steven Tallarico changed his name to Tyler in 1972 as big things came for the band. They signed a contract with Columbia Records and released their first self-titled album the following year. 'Get you Wings' was released in 1974 with the single 'Pandora's Box' and it went gold. 'Sweet Emotion' became the band's first song on the Top 40 while 'Toys In The Attic' hit the Billboard Top 20 Album Chart. Their first stadium show on June 12, 1976 at Pontiac Silverdome, Michigan gathered 80,000 fans and the tickets were sold out within 12 hours.
They were the band that was always there that town who would go around places and actually sing for the fans. They even called their fans 'The Blue Army.' In 1976 they released the album 'Rocks' that became platinum. In 1977, they released several singles including 'Nobody's Fault' and 'Draw the Line.'
Disagreements within the band tarnished and affected them starting 1979 between Tyler and Perry. They reformed on 1984 with new songs, new albums, and a new manager, Tim Collins. In 1985 they released 'Done with Mirrors' and in 1986, Run DMC gave Aerosmith a push when they covered 'Walk This Way.' The following year, Tyler and Perry agreed to go into rehab and the band worked hard to stay sober.
They released 'Permanent Vacation' on 1987. The single 'Dude Looks Like a Lady' was awarded Best Group Video by MTV and 'Angel' topped three on the Billboard Charts. By 1989, 'Pump' was released followed by a Grammy Award for 'Janie's Got a Gun.' In 1993, four charts from 'Get a Grip' hit the charts, including 'Livin' On the Edge,' 'Cryin,' 'Crazy,' and 'Amazing.' 'Nine Lives' debuted in1997 and the next year, they recorded 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' for the movie Armageddon, which became their first number one hit.
'Jaded' was released under the album 'Just Push Play' in 2001 and several other albums were launched. This time they were placed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2003 they recorded an all-blues album which brought back past fans and earned them new ones as well.
